Agha Salman Set for All-Format Captaincy as PCB Sacks Rizwan, Masood

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to appoint Salman Ali Agha as the new all-format captain. The all-rounder was appointed Pakistan's permanent T20I captain in March, and under his leadership, the Men in Green have demonstrated a new resolve while batting, as compared to the past.

Salman has performed very well in ODIs and Tests too. Given his consistency across formats, PCB is keen to replace Rizwan and Masood as ODI and Test skippers. New head coach Mike Hesson, the selection committee, and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi all appear to share the same view about it.

Here is what sources told GeoSuper

“Salman has been impressive in the opinions of the selection committee, new head coach Hesson and, above all, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi. All are on the same page that he should be the all-format captain,”

Pakistan's ODI skipper Rizwan was not happy with the minimal authority that has been left to him regarding team selection under the previous head coach and current High Performance Director .

He had considered resigning himself if he wasn't given the captaincy of the team. Now, it appears that he can be axed.

And with regards to Test skipper Shan Masood, his own form and the team's is not great. Under his captaincy, Pakistan have won only 3 of 12 games.

These include a first-ever series defeat to Bangladesh and a failure to beat the West Indies at home. Shan averages a paltry 34.04 and so far is not exactly worthy of his spot in the Test team.

“Masood’s captaincy was unimpressive and timid, so he was destined to lose the captaincy. Moreover, Masood’s own performance was poor so Salman will also take over from him,” sources added.
