Cassandra Low, believed to be in her 30s, was convicted by the New Taipei District Court on June 5 for offenses including stalking, endangering personal safety and public insult. The court also ruled she will be deported after serving her sentence or paying a fine of NT$1,000 (US$34) per day in lieu of jail time.

Once a fan of Tsao, also known as Tsao Ya-wen, Low began reaching out to the 38-year-old singer through Facebook, Instagram and email in late 2023. But when Tsao blocked her on social media, the interaction took a dark turn. Low reportedly bombarded Tsao and her family with threats and verbal abuse, prompting the singer and her agent to relocate for safety, The Straits Times reported.

The situation came to a head in February when Low tracked Tsao to a high-speed rail station in Taiwan.

In a chilling encounter caught on video, Low blocked the singer’s path, seized her luggage and phone and attempted to coerce her into unblocking her online. She refused to let Tsao leave unless she agreed to “reconcile,” Mothership reported.

Police intervened and detained Low at the scene. Authorities later revealed that the harassment had been building for months, and Tsao had feared for her safety.

On June 11, Tsao took to Instagram to thank her legal team and supporters. While she had previously spoken publicly about fan harassment, this marked the first time she addressed the situation directly.
