In the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Aidan Markram’s brilliant century has brought South Africa very close to the historic victory. Meanwhile, an old tweet of Virat Kohli has gone viral on social media, which he did in the year 2018 for the batting of Markram. Now when Markram hit a century in the final against Australia, the fans revived that tweet.
After the third day’s game, Markram returned unbeaten after scoring 102 runs and in collaboration with captain Temba Bavuma (65*), a 143 -run partnership made South Africa to the threshold of victory. On the fourth day, the team needs only 69 runs to win and there are 8 wickets left in hand.
Aidan Markram’s batting overturned match
The beginning of the third day was not good for South Africa. Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc added 59 runs for the last wicket to reach Australia’s score to 281 and South Africa got a target of 282 runs. By that time, Australia was in a strong position in the match, but Aidan Markram’s innings overturned.
He touched the Australian bowling attack by hitting 102 runs off 159 balls. On the other hand, captain Temba Bavuma, who is struggling with the problem of hamstring, did not lose courage and played an unbeaten innings of 65 runs.
Virat Kohli’s old tweet viral
After this memorable innings of Markram, a 6 -year -old tweet of Virat Kohli has gone viral. This tweet was done during the Cape Town Test in the year 2018, in which Kohli wrote after Markram’s 84 -run innings, ‘It is really enjoyable to see Aidan Markram playing.’ Fans shared this tweet fiercely on social media and said that Kohli’s eyes look very far.
Markram broke many records
This century of Markram was historic in many ways. He became the third batsman to score a century in the World Test Championship final. Before him, Steve Smith and Travis Head have been able to do this feat. He became the first player to score a century in the fourth innings. This was the third century in the fourth innings of his career, leaving AB de Villiers (2 century) behind. Now in this list, only Sunil Gavaskar and Graeme Smith (both have 4-4 centuries).
Also, he has become the ninth batsman to score a duck and century in a single match in Lord’s Test. Since 1980, this feat had been able to do only Michael Vaughan (2002) and Misbah-ul-Haq (2016).
Will the dice turn again on the fourth day?
Now that South Africa needs only 69 runs to win, the team is seen in a strong position. But history is witness that the South African team often chokes on pressure occasions. At the same time, Australia hopes that if 1-2 wickets fall in the beginning on the fourth day, then the adventure can return again in the match.
