It was carnage on The 1% Club this week as a brainteaser managed to wipe out a staggering 30 contestants in one go - and even left host Lee Mack speechless. The quiz show, known for testing logic and common sense over general knowledge, saw 100 hopefuls battling it out for a cash prize. But it was the 60% question - not even one of the harder rounds - that brought absolute chaos. Lee read the question: "Have a look at this picture. Are there more happy faces or sad faces?"
The players were shown an image of 18 cartoon faces, a mix of smiling and frowning expressions. They had just 30 seconds to count them up and make their choice. As the clock ticked down, Lee couldn't resist a cheeky jibe: "This is a tricky one, or it is if you can't count." But when the time was up, jaws dropped as Lee revealed the answer: "There were 10 happy faces and 8 sad, making the correct answer happy."

Clearly stunned by the result, Lee said: "Genuinely wow, we lost 30 people on that question!" And with his trademark sarcasm, he added: "Well, there's 30 sad ones now!"
The blunder booted nearly a third of the contestants off the show in one brutal swoop - and all over a counting question. It follows another eyebrow-raising moment on a previous episode, when the supposedly simple 70% question also tripped up more players than expected.
The question asked: "What is the difference between these two images?" alongside side-by-side photos of the iconic Coronation Street boozer, The Rovers Return Inn.
Lee cracked: "That's easy this, one's on the left and one's on the right."
But it wasn't quite that straightforward - the real answer was that the name of the pub had been sneakily changed in one photo to the Ravers Return Inn. A twist that saw three more contestants sent packing.
And if that wasn't enough to test your brainpower, another recent head-scratcher on the show wiped out 11 players - this time with a deceptively tricky letters question.

And if that wasn't enough to test your brainpower, another recent head-scratcher on the show wiped out 11 players - this time with a deceptively tricky letters question.
Once again in the 70% round, Lee presented the challenge: "If you write the words HIGHER and LOWER with alternating letters, what do you get?" Contestants were given three options and just 30 seconds to lock in an answer.
The choices were: A) HLOIWGEHERR, B) HLIOGWEERR, or C) HLIOWGEHERR.
The confusing combos had players second-guessing, but it was option B - HLIOGWEERR - that turned out to be the right answer. As always, Lee couldn't resist a quip, and when the audience laughed at his delivery, he revealed: "We lost 11 players there."
The unlucky bunch were then seen making their exits, as the game rolled on without them.
Think you could have cracked it? The 1% Club continues to test the nation's brainpower every Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
