Science Desk. Whenever a child is born in a house, these questions often arise in the society – “Boy or girl?” And sadly, the mother is attributed to this several times. But the clear and accurate answer to science is: Deciding the sex of the child depends entirely on the sperm of the man, not on the womb of the woman.
How is sex determination?
Let us tell you that humans have a total of 46 chromosomes, two of which determine the sex of chromosomes – x and y – children. Women have two x chromosomes (XX), while men have one x and a y (xy) chromosome.
According to science, when pregnancy occurs, the woman always gives an egg with X chromosome. The sperm of the male can be of two types – with x or y chromosomes. If the sperm with a male X chromosome is found in the egg, the girl (XX) is born. If the sperm with a male’s Y chromosome is found in the egg, the boy is born. Thus, it depends entirely on the sperm of the man whether the child will be a son or a daughter.
Misconceptions prevailing in society
Even today, it is common in many parts to blame the mother after the birth of a daughter. This social thinking is not only against scientific facts, but also promotes unjust behavior with women. Due to lack of awareness and lack of scientific information, this confusion remains continuously.
Can anyone control it?
In the process of natural conception, it is completely coincident to meet which sperm (x or y) will meet the egg. Under normal circumstances, no one has any control over it. Although medical techniques contain some options that can choose gender, the pre -determination of the penis of the child is illegal in most countries – so that social evils such as gender discrimination and feticide can be curbed.
