A two-year-old girl has died and three other children have been injured at a fun fair in Murcia, . The girl was on a trampoline at the Alquerías fairground when she was reportedly electrocuted. A second girl, aged eight, and two boys, aged 11 and 12, sustained injuries but have returned to their homes.

Spanish have launched an investigation into the incident which happened just after midnight on Sunday (June 15). The children were treated at the scene then taken to hospital by their families, according to Spanish daily .

The little girl died after an hour of ultimately unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate her. She died in hospital.

A woman, 29, was also treated by medics after suffering an anxiety attack, according to Spanish media.

Initial reports suggest the girl got an electric shock when she touched a metal fence around the attraction.

People in Alquerías had been celebrating festivities in honour of the small town's patron saint.

The celebrations for Saint John the Baptist have been suspended as a mark of respect.

Spain's Civil Guard has cordoned off the trampolines. Officers from a judicial unit are looking into whether the attraction had the right connection to the electricity network.

Murcia City Council confirmed that the three injured children have returned to their homes in Alquerías.

Local mayor, José Luis Marín, has visited them to offer the local authority's help.

Officials have opened a case which is examining the possibility of "negligent" homicide and injuries.

Murcia City Council declared three days of official mourning from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday.

The fair was on private land near a health centre in Alquerías, which is about 44 miles south west of Alicante.
