Crime Scene Reconstruction in Meghalaya

Shillong, June 17: The Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a reconstruction of the crime scene in Sohra on Tuesday as part of their investigation into the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was based in Indore.

The SIT, accompanied by a forensic team and five suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, visited Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra to meticulously recreate the events surrounding Raja's murder.

With support from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police, forensic experts began mapping the area to clarify the sequence of events related to the alleged crime.

A senior police official stated that this exercise is crucial for gaining insights and corroborating confessions and witness statements gathered during interrogations. The reconstruction took place at a parking lot in Sohra, identified as the murder site.

The SIT is anticipated to submit the charge sheet within the required legal timeframe.

While officials have been discreet about the evidence being examined, they noted that forensic mapping and on-site walkthroughs are essential for constructing a robust case.

Additionally, on Monday, the Meghalaya Police performed a mental health evaluation of Sonam, the primary suspect in the case.

A police representative mentioned that Sonam was assessed at the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (MIMHANS) as part of a routine psychiatric evaluation, following recommendations from the Medical Officer at Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong. The assessment concluded that her mental health is "sound and good," according to the official.

The shocking murder of Raja has captured national attention, leading to increasing demands for justice. The ongoing reconstruction is viewed as a critical step in shedding light on this disturbing crime.
