British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who recently toured India, took fans behind the scenes of his latest song 'Sapphire' in a newly released BTS video on his YouTube channel. Shah Rukh Khan made a surprise appearance in the music video, which also features vocals by Arijit Singh. Tracing his journey across Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, Ed revealed how a casual game of paddle tennis with the superstar turned into an unforgettable collaboration.
How Shah Rukh Khan became a part of Ed Sheeran's Sapphire
“There is no need to give context of who Shah Rukh Khan is, I would say he is probably like the first or second most famous person in the world,” Ed said in the video, clearly in awe of SRK’s towering global presence.

It all began when Shah Rukh invited Ed to his home for a game of paddle. What followed was not just a friendly match but the start of a spontaneous creative exchange. “He invited me to his house to play paddle. So we played paddle for like 3 hours and then he pitched me an idea and was like, ‘Do it whenever,’ and I was like, ‘To be honest I am here so like do you want to get dinner tomorrow?’” Ed recalled, adding, “By the time I had gone there I was singing the whole tune in Hindi!”
Director Siddharth Anand got involved too
The cameo came together just like that—with minimal planning and maximum warmth. Director Siddharth Anand, who helmed Pathaan, got involved too. He informed Ed that Shah Rukh wanted to meet him again. “I came back, had dinner with him, and we shot his cameo,” Ed shared. The day ended with a heartfelt hug from SRK himself.
'Sapphire' is not just a meeting point of East and West but a fusion of languages and cultures—Arijit Singh lends his voice in Punjabi alongside Ed. The official video even features the duo riding a bike through Indian streets, a scene that has quickly gone viral.
