TCS increased strictness on contract workers, implemented 225 billing days and 35-day bench limit

India’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has implemented a new and strict policy for its sub-contracting partners and contract employees working through them. The move aims to increase the efficiency and productivity of the company.

There are two main points of this new policy:

  1. 225 Billing Day: Now, working on TCS projects through external vendor companies, it has been made mandatory for at least 225 days a year. This means that their services should be used in a project for at least so many days so that the company gets full price for the money being spent on them.

  2. 35 day bench limit: Apart from this, the company has also shown great strictness on ‘bench time’. The ‘bench’ is called the period when an employee does not have a project and is sitting empty. Now no contract worker will be able to live on a bench for more than 35 days. If he does not get a new project within this time frame, the contracting firm will have to remove it from the TCS project.

This step of the company is to determine the accountability of partner companies and to ensure that the company’s resources are used better. It is important to clear that this policy applies only to employees working through external vendors and sub-contractors, not to their permanent employees of TCS.
