Singapore, named the safest country in Southeast Asia, attracted 7.09 million foreign visitors in the first five months of this year, a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

In May alone, Singapore recorded 1.37 million visitor arrivals, marking a 7.6% year-on-year increase, according to data released by the Singapore Tourism Board on Monday.

China remained the top source of tourists from January to May with 1.28 million, followed by Indonesia (1.07 million) and India (534,000).

Since February last year, Singapore waived visa requirements for Chinese passport holders for stays of up to 30 days.

Known for its low crime rates and high safety levels, Singapore has become a favorite destination of foreign tourists.

Earlier this year, it was named the safest country in Southeast Asia, according to a report published by Numbeo, the world’s largest database of user-contributed data.
