Aamir Khan's Anticipated Film Hits Theaters

Aamir Khan is set to make his much-awaited comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to his iconic 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. This new project centers around children with special needs, featuring Aamir in the role of a basketball coach. The film is scheduled for release on Friday, June 20, but has seen a sluggish start at the box office, with disappointing advance ticket sales.

Advance Bookings Lag Behind Expectations

As reported by industry analysts, the advance ticket sales for the first day reached just over Rs 1 crore by Thursday morning, a mere day before its release. This figure is significantly lower than Aamir's last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, which achieved Rs 5.52 crore in advance bookings, despite its own lackluster performance at the box office.

Certification Delays Impact Bookings

In the lead-up to its release, the film encountered an unexpected setback when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested two cuts. Aamir initially resisted these changes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the film's creative vision. Ultimately, the film received CBFC approval, but insiders suggest that the delay in certification contributed to the late start of advance bookings, which only opened late Tuesday night.

Competition from Other Films

Sitaare Zameen Par is currently trailing behind other films released in 2025, such as Jaat, which has secured over Rs 2.37 crore in advance bookings, and Kesari Chapter 2, which stands at Rs 1.84 crore. While there is a possibility for Sitaare Zameen Par to catch up with a last-minute surge, it faces stiff competition from Salman Khan's Sikandar, which has amassed over Rs 10.09 crore, and Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5, which opened with an impressive Rs 8.02 crore.

Optimism from Film Analysts

Despite the slow start, film trade analyst Atul Mohan remains hopeful. He notes that Aamir Khan's films, with the exception of Thugs of Hindostan and Dhoom 3, typically begin slowly but gain momentum through positive word of mouth. He believes that Sitaare Zameen Par, being a different genre, could still perform well if it receives favorable reviews.

Aamir Khan's OTT Rights Offer Declined

Aamir also turned down a substantial offer of Rs 120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the film's OTT rights. Analysts warn that if the film does not attract a significant audience in theaters, Aamir could face a financial setback of Rs 120 crore.

Film Details and Cast

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par features Genelia D’Souza and introduces ten new actors portraying specially abled characters. The film is a remake of the Spanish movie Campeones.
