Green tea is a powerful drink linked with numerous health benefits. If you are considering adding green tea to your diet, don’t wait. Drinking green tea for about two weeks can bring miraculous changes to your health and well-being. Swapping your regular cup of coffee for green tea could boost your health. Even health experts approve of it. Dr. Joseph Salhab, a gastroenterologist who is an expert in digestion, liver, pancreas, and nutrition, has explained the benefits of drinking green tea and how even two weeks of consumption can significantly improve health.
Green tea for a healthy gut

Research has consistently shown that green tea can transform gut health. A 2012 published in Microbiology and Immunology found that green tea consumption increases Bifidobacteria and other beneficial gut bacteria in human trials. “Green tea starts improving your gut bacteria in as little as 10 days,” Dr. Salhab said.
Green tea for liver health

Green tea consumption is also linked with improved liver function. “It can help protect your liver and even slow the progression of a fatty liver,” Dr. Salhab added. A 2013 published in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine found that green tea with high-density catechins improved liver function and reduced fat infiltration in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Green tea for heart health

Regular green tea drinkers may also notice better heart health and metabolic function. “People who drink green tea regularly have improved heart health, lower blood pressure, improved cholesterol, improved memory, and a lower risk of dementia. Plus, it can help you live longer,” the doctor said.
A 2022 in people with a cluster of heart disease risk factors found that consuming green tea extract for four weeks can reduce blood sugar levels and improve gut health by lowering inflammation and decreasing leaky gut. Green tea is also linked with reduced LDL cholesterol and blood pressure. The L-theanine in green tea promotes relaxation without drowsiness, and also supports mental clarity.

The doctor added that he enjoys adding mint or jasmine to enhance the flavour. “It's lower in caffeine than coffee, and I like mixing it with mint or jasmine,” he said.
Green tea and weight loss
Drinking green tea can also help manage body weight and aid weight loss. The catechins in green tea are linked to improved cardiovascular health, weight management, and cognitive function. A 2020 of 11 studies found that green tea can help reduce body weight, body mass index (BMI), and belly fat in people with type 2 diabetes.
