If you also use Google Chrome browser on your computer or laptop, then this news is very important for you. India's top cyber security agency CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued an important warning regarding Chrome users. The agency has said that serious security flaws have been found in some older versions of Chrome, which can be exploited by cybercriminals.

Who is at risk?

This warning is for those users who have not yet been able to install the latest version of Chrome. If your computer is running Chrome older than version 137.0.7151.119/.120 on Windows or macOS or 137.0.7151.119 on Linux, then you may be a victim of cyber attack.

What could be the loss?

If Chrome is not updated, hackers can:

run dangerous code on your system,

crash the browser,

steal your personal or financial information.

All this can happen just by clicking on an infected website and you will not even know about it until the damage is done.

CERT-In gave these important suggestions:

1. Update the browser immediately: Install the latest version of Chrome immediately to keep your device safe.

2. Keep auto-updates on: Make sure the automatic update option is turned on in Chrome's settings, so that security fixes are automatically installed in future.

3. Report if you find any problem: If you notice any problem in Chrome, immediately report it through Google's bug tracker or their support forum.

How to update Chrome?

Open the browser and click on the three dots (top right)

Go to Help > About Google Chrome

Here you will see the version of Chrome and if an update is available, it will start automatically

Restart the browser after the update

Why is it necessary to take immediate action?

Cyber attacks have now become more advanced than before. Most of the times the user does not know when and how his system got hacked. In such a situation, you can keep your data and device safe only by installing the latest security update of Chrome.
