Tools Shafi Defation Case Against ary UK

Popular Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi has won a defamation case in the UK against ARY News’ UK broadcaster, New Vision TV. The case was settled out of court, and as part of the agreement, the channel aired a public apology to Meesha Shafi.

In their apology, the channel admitted that a past broadcast caused “misunderstanding” and said they were sorry if Meesha Shafi was hurt by it. The broadcast aired on December 5, 2020, and included claims that Meesha had ignored court orders in Pakistan. In 2023, the UK High Court ruled that the report was defamatory and harmful to her reputation.

The court said Meesha was wrongly shown as someone who disrespected the law and skipped court hearings. The statements could damage her image, especially since she is a well-known public figure who supports women’s rights.

Meesha shared the news on formerly Twitter (X) and confirmed she had won the case. She thanked her supporters and highlighted the importance of standing up for the truth.

This case is linked to a long-standing legal dispute between Meesha Shafi and fellow singer Ali Zafar. In 2018, Meesha accused Ali Zafar of harassment, a moment that played a big role in Pakistan’s #MeToo movement. Ali Zafar later filed a defamation case against her, and Meesha responded with a counter-case.

Though some of her earlier complaints were dismissed, the Supreme Court of Pakistan agreed in 2021 to review her case under workplace harassment laws. Their legal battle has now lasted over seven years, and no final decision has yet been made in Pakistan.
