
A road rage incident on National Highway 48 near Dabaspet has sparked controversy, with former Uttara Kannada MP Anant Kumar Hegde and his associates being accused of assaulting a Muslim man over an overtaking dispute. The incident reportedly occurred near Halenijagallu on Monday and has led to an FIR being registered against Hegde and three others at the Dabaspet Police Station.
According to the complaint, the victim’s car overtook Hegde’s vehicle while heading from Tumakuru toward Bengaluru. Following this, Hegde’s convoy stopped the car near Dabaspet, where his gunman Sridhar and driver Mahesh allegedly physically assaulted the driver and occupants of the other vehicle. The video footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
Anant Kumar Hegde has been named as the primary accused in the FIR, which also includes his gunman, driver, and another associate.
The incident has stirred tension locally. A large number of members from the Muslim community gathered outside the Dabaspet police station demanding action, while BJP leaders arrived at the spot to express support for Hegde.
Police officials confirmed that Hegde and his aides were summoned to the DySP office near Nelamangala for questioning. Further investigation is underway.
