As Diljit Dosanjh gears up for his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3 it has landed in the middle of a political and cultural storm. The controversy erupted soon after the trailer dropped with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir featuring prominently alongside Diljit. With current tensions between India and Pakistan running high—especially post the Pahalgam terror attack—the backlash has been swift and intense. Industry to boycott Diljit? The film has been denied a release in India and will now only be released overseas. Audiences and sections of the industry are calling for a boycott of Diljit questioning his decision to collaborate with a Pakistani artist despite an active ban on such collaborations in India. In fact the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged action against the singer-actor stating that he hurt national sentiments by working with a Pakistani talent during sensitive times. Heres what Diljit Dosanjh said: In his first public response Diljit Dosanjh broke his silence while speaking to BBC Asian Network. Addressing the controversy he said “Jab ye film bani thi tab situation sab theek thi. Humne isey February mein shoot kiya tha aur tab sab kuch theek tha. Uske baad bahut saari badi cheezein humare haath mein nahi hoti.” He clarified that the project was completed much before political tensions resurfaced and that the films team could not have anticipated the current climate. Diljit added that the producers having invested significantly in the film decided to go ahead with an overseas release. “Nirmaataon ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab ye film ban rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi. Ab situation humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh agar producers usey overseas mein release karna chahte hain toh main unka support karta hoon” he explained. About Sardaar Ji 3 The film stars not just Hania Aamir but also features Neeru Bajwa Gulshan Grover Jasmine Bajwa and Sapna Pabbi in key roles. While Sardaar Ji 3 continues to face resistance in India the team hopes that the film’s international release on June 27 will help recoup its investment amid the controversy.
