June 25, 2025 — The Nothing Phone 3 is set to make its global debut on July 1alongside the new Nothing Headphone 1. In a significant design shift, the upcoming device will replace the iconic Glyph Interface with a newly developed Glyph Matrixoffering users animated pixel art alerts and enhanced programmability.
In an interview with Design Milk, Adam BatesHead of Design at Nothing, explained that the Glyph Matrix preserves the spirit of the original interface while delivering greater efficiency and flexibility.
Compact, Programmable Glyph Matrix
Unlike the previous generations’ large LED stripsthe Glyph Matrix is a smaller, circular display placed on the upper right corner of the back panel, featuring a micro-LED cluster. The new matrix supports pixel-level animations, symbolic visualsand reactive lighting effects that sync with sound and user interactions.
According to Bates, the micro-LED cluster offers significantly more programmability than the segmented LED strips of earlier models, allowing users to customize lighting effects for different apps and notifications. The redesign also creates more internal space within the phone, enabling improved hardware layouts.
The dot-matrix display on the Nothing Phone 3 bears a resemblance to the AniMe Vision panel found on the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro.
