The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has raised strong objections against the ongoing shoot of Border 2, starring Diljit Dosanjh, amid the controversy surrounding the actor-singer's recently-released Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The shoot of Border 2 is currently underway in Pune with Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and other actors. The makers had announced a couple of months back that Diljit will also star in the patriotic film. Diljit to be removed from Border 2? However, according to India Today, Diljit will be removed from the film because of his Sardaar Ji 2 controversy. This comes after FWICE wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, requesting an immediate withdrawal of filming permissions granted for the project. The FWICE, which has officially boycotted Diljit, has objected to his presence in the film due to his collaboration Hania in Sardaar Ji 3. The makers of the film, shot before Pahalgam terror attack, has been criticised for promoting and releasing it amid strained diplomatic sentiments.FWICE's letter to Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh "We write to you with deep concern regarding the shooting permission reportedly granted to the production team of the film Border 2 at the National Defence Academy (NDA) premises in Pune," the FWICE stated in its letter to the ministers."It is important to bring to your notice that Border 2 features actor Diljit Dosanjh, who has been officially boycotted by FWICE owing to his involvement with individuals and content that have deeply disrespected Indian sentiments, especially by associating with Pakistani artists known for their anti-India views, and participating in projects filmed in sensitive border locations like Pahalgam immediately following terror incidents targeting our armed forces," the letter added.Highlighting the symbolic importance of the NDA, the FWICE further wrote, "The NDA, being a national symbol of military training and sacrifice, must not be used as a backdrop for a film involving an actor who is currently under public and professional boycott due to acts that undermine the spirit of national unity and hurt the sentiments of our defence community."Diljit safe in Border 2, say some reports On the other hand, a source informed Hindustan Times that there are no current plans to remove Diljit from Border 2. "There is no plan to replace or remove Diljit from Border 2. His casting was confirmed nearly nine months ago, long before the recent unfortunate incidents. Nearly half the film has already been shot, and any replacement at this stage would be logistically unfeasible," the source said. As of now, no official statement from the makers of Border 2 or Diljit has been issued in response to FWICE's objections.FWICE calls for 'ban' on Diljit A couple of days back, FWICE called for a complete ban on the actor-singer's projects in India.Post the Pahalgam attack, Indian film federations had unanimously decided to ban all Pakistani artists in the country, and had also threatened to boycott Indian artists who wished to collaborate with Pakistani artists. But disregarding the decision, Diljit announced his next film, Sardaar Ji 3, with Hania Aamir, and also stated that the film would release overseas only, and not in India.FWICE Presidence, BN Tiwari, told Hindustan Times, "By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments. He has disrespected the sentiments of the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities."He went on to say, "We have heard that the film is not being released in India. But if they plan to release it, we will ban it. For now, they are releasing overseas only. That being said, Diljit working with a Pakistani actor is something we are not ready to overlook.""We have called for a strict ban on all upcoming films, songs or any other sort of projects. Along with Diljit, we have also called for a ban on the producers of the film regarding all their upcoming films," he concluded.
