New Delhi: The Wimbledon 2025 draw has set up a potential blockbuster fortnight at the All England Club with all 64 first-round matches locked in for both men and women. The fans across the world are getting ready for two weeks action packed performances with sky-high anticipations as the tournament continues to be the most awaited Grand Slam of the year.
This year’s event promises to be a mix of generational battles and star-studded showdown featuring 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka all eying the most coveted prize on grass.
French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who is chasing his third consecutive Wimbledon title, will open his campaign against veteran Fabio Fognini. The 22-year-old comes into London on the back of an 18-match winning streak, the longest of his career, after lifting the Queen’s Club trophy last week.
Alcaraz’s section of the draw includes a possible second-round clash with either British qualifier Oliver Tarvet or Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi. Looking further ahead, the Spaniard could face eighth seed Holger Rune in the quarter-finals before a potential semi-final showdown with third seed Alexander Zverev, who opens against Arthur Rinderknech.
Sinner and Djokovic land in same half
World No.1 Jannik Sinner will begin his quest for a maiden Wimbledon title against fellow Italian Luca Nardi. The Italian fell short to Alcaraz in the French Open final earlier this month, and could face a heavyweight semi-final with Novak Djokovic if both progress deep into the tournament.
Djokovic is seeded sixth, marking his lowest Wimbledon seeding since 2018. The Serbian will start his campaign for a record-equalling eighth title against France’s Alexandre Muller. Djoko, who has previously beaten Sinner in their last two Wimbledon encounters, is slated for a potential quarter-final clash with British hope Jack Draper.
British No. 1 Draper, who is seeded fourth, opens against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez and faces a tough projected path that could include Marin Cilic in the second round and Alexander Bublik, who defeated him at Roland Garros in the third round. Should Draper continue his rise, a possible quarter-final against Djokovic awaits, followed by Sinner in the semis and Alcaraz in the final.
Women’s draw highlights
In the women’s draw, World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka will face Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine in her opener. Sabalenka could potentially meet Britain’s Emma Raducanu or defending champion Marketa Vondrousova in the third round, should the British No.1 get past compatriot Mingge Xu in her tricky first-round clash.
Top seed Coco Gauff begins against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska, while third seed Jessica Pegula takes on Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Czech star Barbora Krejcikova, the defending champion and seeded 17th, will start against Alexandra Eala of the Philippines after recovering from a minor thigh strain.
Alcaraz will open play on Centre Court on Monday, while Krejcikova will begin the women’s defence on Tuesday. The tournament is set to deliver a fortnight of drama as the world’s best battle for the sport’s most prestigious crown.
