Why Preity Zinta's Epic Clapback To 'Not Marrying Glenn Maxwell' Question Deserves An Applause

Preity Zinta recently schooled a troll on X who asked her a misogynistic question that linked Australian cricketer Glen Maxwell’s lacklustre performance in IPL 2025 to her. Preity was not the one to take the comment lying down. She gave a befitting response to the X user’s distasteful question.

Her reply received immense support from other netizens who also condemned the toxic misogyny in male dominated fields. Here’s what Preity Zinta said to shut down her troll.

Preity Zinta held an AMA (Ask My Anything) session on X on Tuesday. One of the X users chose to ask her a ridiculous and sexist question, saying that Glen Maxwell’s below average performance in IPL 2025 is because he couldn't marry Zinta.

Preity clapped back at the question and put the troll in its place by asking if the same question would be posed to a male team owner.

Her reply was meant to remind that such a mindset is responsible for the rampant sexism in a male-dominated field like cricket. She also added that even though the troll’s question was meant as a joke, she stressed to carefully look at the question as it is not funny or pretty.

She also highlighted that she has been working hard for almost 18 years and does not deserve the disrespect

The X user’s comment read, “Mam Maxwell ki aapse shadi ni hui isiliye vo aapko team se accha ni khelta tha?” (Ma’am, Maxwell could not marry you. Is that why he didn’t play well for your team?)”

To which Preity replied on X, “Will you ask this question to the male team owners of all teams, or is this discrimination just towards the women? I never knew how difficult it is for women to survive in corporate setups until I got into cricket. I’m sure you asked this question out of humour, but I hope you can actually look at your question and understand what you are trying to say because if you really understand what you’re trying to say, it’s not pretty!”

She added, “I think I have earned my stripes by working very hard for the past 18 years so please give me the respect I deserve & stop with the gender bias. Thank you 🙏”

Why is Preity Zinta speaking up important?

Preity Zinta asking the troll if a male team owner would ever be at the receiving end of such a sexist question is a crude reminder how women are still reduced to their sexual appeal and romantic link-ups even if they are a team owner in IPL.

In India, cricket is a male-dominated sport, which is further fortified by fans (and fanatics) worshiping the male cricketers. Women associated with cricket are often never taken seriously or worse, trolled for biased reasons. The Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal row is a big fat proof of the same.

Even though Preity’s response would matter little to nothing to incels and misogynists waiting to attack, hiding behind their profile pictures, it is important to understand that not speaking up will only worsen the mindset and sexism in male-dominated fields.
