Shimla: A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and hiding the evidence by burning her body, reported PTI, citing the police. After the crime, the man had filed a missing report with the local police.
The man, identified as Tota Ram, a security guard from Ganperi village, allegedly killed his wife, Gulshan (26). Ram used to torture Gulshan over dowry issues, her family members alleged in their complaint.
Preliminary investigations showed that paint and wood were used to burn her body so it could not be identified, the police said.
The couple got married in 2020 and has a three-year-old son.
Ram's cover was blown after Gulshan's family members, who were trying to contact her, arrived at the village on Wednesday after Ram's neighbours notified them of suspicious activity in his courtyard.
"Tota Ram's behaviour was suspicious, and later, we found a pit dug in the courtyard in which there was a half-burnt body," Gulshan's brother Akshay said.
Gulshan's family immediately informed the police, who took her body into custody. Samples from the crime site were sent to a forensic lab, and a postmortem was also conducted.
Ram had filed a missing report with the Shoghi police after allegedly killing his wife.
Ram has been booked under Sections 103 (Punishment for murder) and 238 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
