
Indian Air Force's brave officer Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is in the headlines these days. Recently, she, along with Army Colonel Sophia Qureshi, held an important press briefing regarding 'Operation Sindoor', which caught the attention of the country. Vyomika Singh joined the Air Force's flying branch in 2004 through Short Service Commission (SSC) and today she is a capable helicopter pilot.
After completing her engineering studies, she chose the Air Force and took the path of serving the country while being an NCC cadet. If you also want to touch the heights of the sky like Vyomika Singh and want to become a pilot in the Air Force, then there are many ways for this.
Main ways to join the Air Force
NDA (National Defense Academy)
12th (PCM) pass students can join the Army, Navy and Air Force through NDA. NDA doors are now open for women as well. Age should be between 16.5 to 19.5 years. NDA gives direct permanent commission.
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test)
This is for unmarried men and women. For flying branch, age should be 20 to 24 years, 50% marks in 12th (PCM) and 60% marks in graduation are required. B.Tech is required for technical branch. Short service commission is available in this.
CDS (Combined Defense Services)
CDS is also a big way to become an officer. In this also, to join the Air Force, 12th with PCM and graduation from any stream is required. For Navy, one should have B.Sc or Engineering. Short service commission is also available from CDS.
NCC Special Entry
If you have NCC's 'C Certificate' and you are in the final year of B.Tech or have passed it, then you can directly go to the flying branch by giving AFSB interview without written exam.
