A Jawan was martyred and two were injured in the line of duty during an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

Officials told the news agency IANS that the soldier was martyred in the encounter in the Singhpora Chatroo area of Kishtwar.

"During the ongoing operation, fierce gunfight is continuing. One of our bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the exchange of fire and has succumbed despite best medical efforts. Operation is in progress," the Indian Army's White Knight Corps said in a post on X.

Codenamed 'Operation Trashi', the joint operation saw the deployment of additional troops after the gun battle erupted. Efforts are on to neutralise the terrorists, the Army’s White Knight Corps said in a post on X.

The joint operation codenamed 'Operation Trashi' was launched with reinforcements deployed after the gunfight unfolded. The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed on X that efforts to eliminate the remaining terrorists are still in process.

The encounter began at around 7 am following the launch of a search operation in Singhpora Chatroo jointly with the troops of two Para SF, the Army’s 11 RR, 7th Assam rifles, and SOG Kishtwar.

Operation Against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Terrorists

The operation was launched against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, reportedly three to four in number, in the Singhpora Chatroo area in the morning, as per the IANS report.

According to officials, joint security forces initiated a cordon and search operation (CASO) after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of three to four terrorists in the area.

"The cordon was tightened to engage the terrorists and to ensure that they are unable to escape. As the joint forces came closer, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter which is now going on. Three to four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists are reported to be holed up,” an official said earlier.

These operations were intensified following the April 22 attack in which Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists targeted civilians based on their religion, brutally killing 26 people, 25 tourists and a local, in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.

The horrific act sparked nationwide outrage. In response, India carried out precise strikes on terror infrastructure located in Muridke near Lahore, as well as Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In retaliation, Pakistan launched heavy mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, damaging around 200 houses and shops, and forcing hundreds of residents in border areas to flee to safer places.
