Political Allegations Amidst a Tragic Incident
Dharamshala: A prominent BJP figure and former minister, Bikram Thakur, has accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his Congress-led administration of exploiting a widow's desperate call for justice for political gain. Thakur made these remarks in a press release on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Thakur expressed that the suspicious death of Vimal Negi, the Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, has deeply disturbed the state’s conscience. He claimed that the subsequent administrative failures and political meddling necessitated judicial intervention, highlighting a growing public skepticism towards law enforcement and governmental bodies.
“For the first time in the history of Himachal, the High Court had to intervene and prevent the police from submitting a chargesheet without its consent, taking direct control of the investigation. This is not a routine occurrence; it signals a serious warning,” Thakur stated, underlining the seriousness of the judicial involvement. “It was evident that the investigation was being influenced, forcing the judiciary to act as the final safeguard for justice.”
He pointed out that two senior police officials—the Shimla SP and the Himachal DGP—were at odds in court. “When those tasked with enforcing the law are divided due to political pressures, it indicates a breakdown of the system,” he asserted.
Thakur criticized the Congress government for allowing its internal conflicts to disrupt state governance. “This is not merely a case of Congress infighting; it has permeated the police, bureaucracy, and the entire governance framework. The state is suffering as a result,” he remarked.
He condemned the administration for allegedly attempting to silence a grieving widow. “A woman sought justice for her deceased husband, yet instead of receiving assistance, she encountered silence and obstruction from those in authority. This is not just a moral failing; it is a betrayal of democracy,” he said.
Thakur also connected this crisis to wider issues of corruption and mismanagement. He recalled how, after he revealed extensive illegal deforestation, a Congress MLA from Mandi faced similar allegations. “This is not an isolated case; it reveals a pattern of corruption shielded by political influence and incompetence disguised by propaganda,” he added.
He directly criticized Chief Minister Sukhu, labeling his leadership a “historic blunder” that has led Himachal into turmoil. “The state is now suffering the consequences of a poor decision. Law and order have deteriorated, public safety is compromised, and justice is precarious—only upheld by the courts,” he stated.
Thakur called on the citizens of Himachal to maintain their trust in India’s democratic institutions. “The judiciary has stepped in where the government has failed. We must support truth and justice, not those who seek to suppress it,” he urged.
He expressed gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh High Court for recognizing the urgency of the situation and providing hope to a family let down by the system. “While the Congress government has plunged the state into a leadership crisis, it is the judiciary that has reminded us that justice still has a voice,” he concluded.
