Suspense crime, Digital Desk : As of today, Meta has finally launched a native WhatsApp application for iPad. It is responsive, polished and, as unlike the version before it, works across devices seamlessly. However, one incredible flaw stands out regarding the absence of WhatsApp on iPads, and that issue becomes very evident now: Where is Instagram for iPad?
Although both applications were released in 2010, Instagram has not yet developed a native iPad application. Instead, users are offered an upscaled iPhone version or a web interface that serves as a work around instead of offering a true solution.
Meta’s Response: “Doesn’t Have Enough Demand.” Is that so?
What’s surprising, however, is how adamant Mosseri’s decision seems to be given the developments in the market. He does believe, after all, that an iPad user base doesn’t provide the necessary incentive to shift focus from the mobile app.
“This is one we gets a lot. Just not a big enough group of people to be a priority,” he stated.
Yet, this response doesn’t stand the test of time. Instagram’s main target audience are creators, photographers, social media managers, and video editors – all of whom rely heavily on an iPad, and, as it turns out, have considered the device as a fundamental instrument in recent years.
Instagram on iPad: A Missed Opportunity for Creators
Consider the potential:
Reels that completely fill the screen and have engaging immersion.
Editing videos side by side, texting, or having chats at the same time.
Stories creation tools that utilize Apple Pencils.
The capability of multitasking using drag and drop features from other applications like Procreate or Final Cut Pro.
All of the items mentioned above are not merely about convenience; it speaks of unleashing the true imaginative workflows on a device designed for content creation.
iPads and their features are no longer niche:
With the introduction of the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil, iPadOS has become optimized for multi-tasking and productivity. Not to mention the iPad being a focal point for professional content creation work. It is unfortunate though, that Instagram is one of the last major apps without a proper iPad interface.
Meta’s Threads offers a better experience than Instagram on the iPad, which is astonishing.
Possible Reasons Behind the Delay
Irrational Business reasoning could be at the top of the list,” in case Meta uses these points, they might be right.
The use of iPads doesn’t seem big enough to justify the return on investment.
Tablets are engaged with less than phones.
Having a different version of the app adds a separate expense.
Although these seem to be the case, these reasons are outdated. Applications like TikTok, Pinterest, and even X (Twitter) have already made use of the iPad. Meta is lagging behind the race.
Instagram for the iPad – will it be available soon?
The Information revealed that Meta is developing an Instagram app for the iPad in April 2025. They have no set date, but the fact that there is some discussion around it is a considerable change.
It’s about time Meta Fixes The Mistake
Meta has recently improved their apps by releasing WhatsApp for iPad, but it seems they are still dragging their feet on Instagram. The absence feels very suspicious and lacking. In a time when content is king, creators and their work should not have to suffer because of cramped phone applications. It’s time for tablets too. Meta, stop making excuses and bring iPad users the Instagram they have been longing for.
