According to Swampthe 62-year-old was dressed in period costume while promoting a product during a livestream on Saturday when he appeared visibly drowsy and suddenly fell to the ground. Staff on site immediately stopped the broadcast and rushed him to the hospital.

A representative from the company collaborating with Ma said initial tests indicated he fainted due to low blood sugar. His condition is now stable, and his management confirmed that while the incident was not life-threatening, he will require time to rest and recover.

News of Ma’s collapse quickly went viral, propelling his name to the top of Weibo’s trending topics. Tens of thousands of fans posted messages of concern and support.

“He’s not young anymore,” one user wrote. “Livestreaming can be exhausting. Wearing thick costumes in the summer heat could easily lead to heatstroke.”

Another commented: “It’s so dangerous to hit your head like that.”

Many also reflected on the nostalgia of seeing Ma, whose performances were a staple of their childhood TV viewing.

In recent years, Ma has shifted away from acting in TV dramas, instead focusing on appearances in variety shows, live singing events, and online broadcasts. Starting his acting career in 1984, his decades-long career includes prominent roles in the 1994 adaptation of “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber,” the 1999 “Legend of the Eight Immortals,” and the 2000 version of “The Legendary Swordsman.”

Ma has been married twice. He divorced his first wife in 1993 and his second wife in 2017. He is now a single father of two children from his second marriage and also has a daughter from his first.
