Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is on the verge of a major career shift as the Uttar Pradesh government moves to appoint him as a District Basic Education Officer (BSA). The position comes under the International Medal Winners Direct Recruitment Rules-2022, which supports the appointment of sports achievers in government roles.
The 26-year-old Aligarh-born left-handed batter, known for his standout performances in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and recent outings for India in T20Is and ODIs, is now being acknowledged for his international success in a unique way. The appointment would place Singh within the state's education administrative framework, a notable transition from professional sports to civil service.
While no formal joining date has been confirmed, a letter from the Director of Basic Education has already been issued, initiating the recruitment procedure.

A Journey Rooted in Humble Beginnings and National Recognition
Singh’s potential appointment is a part of UP’s ongoing policy to recognize international-level athletes with dignified posts. The move is aimed at encouraging sports excellence while integrating athletes into public service.
Born in 1997, Rinku Singh came from a modest background—his father delivered gas cylinders, and Rinku helped out before cricket took center stage. His rise began with a strong display in school cricket and culminated in stellar IPL performances, especially during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the latter of which saw KKR lifting the trophy.
Singh has also been in the public eye for personal reasons. He recently got engaged to SP MP Priya Saroj, daughter of Jaunpur MP Toofani Saroj. Their wedding, scheduled for November 18 in Varanasi, is currently postponed. The ceremony saw the presence of political leaders including Akhilesh Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, and Dimple Yadav, underlining Singh’s growing stature beyond cricket.
