India and England are currently locked in a five-match Test series. The tour began on a disappointing note for Team India, as they suffered a five-wicket defeat in the opening Test at Leeds under the leadership of newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill.
Now, all eyes are on the second Test, scheduled to begin on July 4 at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, where India will aim to level the series and break a historic jinx.
India’s Edgbaston Struggle: A 58-Year Drought
India has a dismal record at Edgbaston. Since playing their first Test at the venue in 1967, the team has never won a single match there.
Out of eight Tests, India has lost seven and managed to draw just once.
The 2011 defeat by an innings and 242 runs remains one of India’s most painful losses on English soil. The Birmingham ground has become synonymous with heartbreak for Indian cricket fans, and breaking that streak will be a major milestone.
Goodbye Leeds 👋

For Shubman Gill, this is more than just a regular Test—it’s a chance to rewrite history. Ending a decades-long drought and leveling the series against an aggressive England side would mark a huge statement early in his captaincy career. But it won’t be easy, especially with England high on confidence and continuing their bold 'Bazball' approach.
England claimed a convincing five-wicket victory over India in the first Test of the five-match series at Headingley, Leeds.
Chasing a challenging target of 371 runs in the fourth innings, England showcased their aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach as Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Zak Crawley delivered strong performances.
Despite five centuries from Indian batters, including two by Rishabh Pant, the visitors couldn't defend their lead. England reached the target comfortably on Day 5, finishing at 373/5. The win handed England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
